In your weather forecast, high and low temperatures tell you how warm and cool the air will be during a 24-hour period. The daily maximum temperature, or high, describes how warm you can expect the air to be, usually from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The daily minimum temperature, or low, tells how much  the air is expected to cool, usually overnight from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Ã‚   High Temperatures Dont Happen at High Noon Theres a common misconception that high temperatures occur at high noon when the sun is at its highest elevation. However, this is not the case.   Just as the hottest days of summer dont happen until after the summer solstice, high temperatures dont usually happen until the late afternoon — typically  3 to 4 p.m. local time. By this time, the suns heat has built up since noon  and more heat is present at the surface than is leaving it. After 3 to 4 p.m., the sun sits low enough in the sky for the amount of outgoing heat to be greater than that incoming, and so temperatures begin to cool.   How Late at Night Do Lows Happen? Just how long after 3 to 4 p.m. will temperatures be at their coolest?   While you can typically expect the air temperature to drop as the evening and nighttime hours wear on,  the  lowest temperatures  dont tend to happen until just before  sunrise.   This can be quite confusing, especially since the low is often listed along with the word tonight. To help make it a little clearer, consider this.  Lets say  you check the weather for Sunday and  see a high of 50 °F (10 °C) and a low of 33 °F (1 °C). The 33 degrees thats displayed is the lowest temperature thatll occur between 7 p.m. Sunday evening and 7 a.m. Monday morning. Highs Dont Always Happen During the Day, Nor Lows at Night Weve talked about the times of day when  high and low temperatures occur 90% of the time, but its important to also know there are exceptions to this.   As backward as it sounds, sometimes  the high temperature for the day wont actually happen until  late in the evening or overnight. And likewise, the low can happen during midday.  In winter, for example, a weather system may move into an area and its  warm front  sweep across a region late in the day. But by the start of the next day,  the systems cold front then enters and sends the mercury  dropping  throughout the daytime  hours. (If youve ever noticed a downward-facing arrow next to the high temperature in your weather forecast, this is what it means.)

They are ages 9-14, so none was as young as the lower limit listed on the product, but I dont think a younger child would have any difficulty with this project. Children younger than age 6 might have trouble pouring the crystals into the mold to make a ball or might be tempted to eat the crystals. The instructions for this kit are very clear and include pictures, so its very easy to get great results. Basically, here is what you do: Snap together the molds.Pour crystals (one or many colors, be creative!) into a mold until it is full.Immerse the filled mold in a cup of water for 90 seconds. (We just counted to 90.)Remove the mold from water and allow it to sit on the counter for 3 minutes (time didnt seem to be critical), then remove it from the mold and set it on a piece of foil or plastic wrap.When the ball is set or not-sticky, bounce it and play with it.Store each ball in its own plastic bag (included). Pretty easy, right? It didnt seem to matter if you left the ball in the mold longer than 3 minutes, but you do not want to leave the filled mold in the water longer than 90 seconds. If you leave the ball in the water too long the crystals will swell up and split the mold open. The mold will be fine, but you will get a seriously mutated ball. The balls bounce really high. If they get dirty, you can just rinse them off with water. The package said you could make 20 balls using the materials, but we actually got 23 balls out of the package. What I Liked and Didnt Like About Magic Powerballs What I Liked Easy enough even a child can make them.The project is quick. I would say you could go from opening the package to having a ball within 10 minutes.You dont need any strange materials. Get a glass of water and youre set.The project is very safe. Its safe to touch the materials. The balls are non-toxic.Clean-up was simple. Just wipe down your work surface with a damp sponge when you are done.The balls are exactly as described. They really do bounce up to 15 feet. They really are bright neon colors. Most of the colors glow very brightly under a black light. Some of the colors glow in the dark (green for sure, possibly pink). What I Didnt Like This is one of the best science activity kits Ive come across, so there isnt a lot I would improve. However, I wish the instructions had included some explanation of the chemistry behind making the powerballs. It also might be nice if the crystals came in resealable bags so that you didnt need scissors and so you could store materials in case you dont make all the balls at one time. Magic Powerballs Summary Would I buy this kit again? Definitely! This would be an affordable and fun party activity for kids. It is an enjoyable family science activity. Do my kids want to do this activity again? Yes. The balls do not last forever (instructions said they were good for about 20 days), so this is a project that can be repeated.

Becoming a Teacher Essay Never has it crossed my mind’s eye to become a teacher. I would choose any other field or career except it. In fact, after my high schooling, I was so undecided of what course to take, of which way to go as if I was in the crossroad Robert Frost is pertaining to in his poem, â€Å"The Road Not Taken†. I was definitely certain I never wanted to be one; I would not get myself involved with it, not even in my wildest dream! But, should I say fortunately or unfortunately, because my relatives who are educators said I must be like them, and that I should follow their steps. According to them, there was no better profession for me other than teaching. Woe to me! My life seemed to be driven by my family’s beliefs. I had to obey. I had no choice. So I had a plan. I would go against the current, regardless of my kin. They would be the ones to provide for my allowance and miscellaneous fee. I was by then a scholar, a grant my relative also worked out. At first, I was just planning to finish the first semester and then I would shift to another course but I never had the chance because they didn’t allow me to. I finished the degree with recognition though I never really liked it. For me, it’s better than not having a degree at all. After graduation, I took the examination not because of the excitement to be a â€Å"professional teacher† but because it is the expectation from all the education graduates. Therefore the changed contexts of landscape, culture and linguistic anodes and patterns not only alienate the language from its roots but also force it to put on the local colour, texture, usage, form, and function. There are three questions that come to the fore when discussing about Indian poetry of English: Is Indian verse in English only sometimes Indian and occasionally poetry? Must Indian poetry in English be Indian before it can be true poetry? In what exactly lies the Indianness of Indian poetry in English? To begin with the first question, Is Indian verse in English only sometimes Indian and occasionally poetry?; the second part of this question is easily answered. All Indian verse in English produced during the last two centuries from Henry Derozio to the present day does not automatically qualify as genuine poetry. As a recent anthologist puts it, Publication in the field of Indo-Anglian poetry has been ample and indiscriminate. For every reckonable book of Indo-Anglian poems I have read, I have probably read ten that need not have been read at all. They may be Indo-Anglian, but they are not poetry.  [3]  We might agree, some Indian verse in English is only occasionally poetry, mostly because it is very much a poetry of occasion. Most of the numerous sonnets and verse celebrating the motherland and the illustrious leaders ( Sarojini Naidus To India, and The Lotus, Humayun Kabirs Mahatma, V.N.Bhushans Ninth August, 1942, and R.R.Sresthas A Light onto our Path) are cases in point, cullied in random. Conventional sentiment couched in conventional diction and imagery can hardly rise to the level of genuine poetry. In trying to find a satisfactory answer to the first part of the question, viz. Is Indian verse in English only sometimes Indian, one is on comparatively safe ground in spotting obvious imitations, which has made an uncomfortably large part of this writing a whispering gallery of echoes rather than a chorus of authentic voices. Thoreau wrote in Walden, The head monkey at Paris puts on a travellers cap, and all the monkeys in America do the same. The history of Indian poetry in English shows a similar process at work. When the head monkey in London puts on a new literary thinking cap, all the descendants of Shri Hanumanji in India dutifully do the same. Kashiprosad Ghoshs Shair in The Shair and Other poems was obviously an Indian avatar of Sir Walter Scotts Minstrel in The Lay of the Last Minstrel. The romantic sun indeed continued to shine in India long after it had ceased to shed on Britain the light that never was on sea or land, because literary geography inevitably implies a time -lag similar to the one which physical geography presents. After Victorianism succeeded romanticism in Britain, in due course Tennysonesque and Swinburnian melodies (some of Harindranath Chattopadhyayas lyrics are typical examples) and Arnoldian musing (One recalls Gordon Bottomleys well known description of Indian-poetry in English as Mathew Arnold in a saree) becme the models to be aped. Modernism arrived after independence (again with the inevitable time-lag) more than a generation after it had entered Britain. Indian poetry in English is thus only occasionally poetry and only sometimes poetry. This leads to another strain of thought that why must Indian poetry in English be always Indian to establish a nationality. H.W.Longfellow is reported to have said, in connection with the novel Kavanagh, Nationality in literature is good, but universality is better. Longfellows statement leads to a similar plea: Why insist that the Indian poet must talk of the banyan and the Champak, and not of cedars and wisterias; of parrots and water-buffaloes and not of redbreasts and unicorns; of mangoes and guavas, and not of pears and peaches?
